Easy Oreo Truffles

{By Vanessa ~ December 2, 2008}

I recently learned from my aunt how to make the BEST Oreo Truffles ever. When I found out that all I needed was a box of Oreos, a bag of chocolate chips and a package of cream cheese, I had to give it a try. These really do taste heavenly and they are so incredibly easy to make too.

Step 1:

Grind up one whole package of Oreos in your blender/food processor/hand chopper. Save about 1 cup of ground-up Oreos and put it to the side.

Step 2:

Add one 8 oz package of cream cheese (at room temperature) to the remaining ground-up Oreos and combine well, then form them into 1 inch balls (about golf ball size).

Step 3:

Melt one package of chocolate chips (whichever is your favorite - milk, semi-sweet, dark chocolate) on a double broiler or very carefully in a microwave. Dip the balls into the melted chocolate and coat well, then place them on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper.

Step 4:

Take the cup of ground up Oreos and sprinkle the extra Oreo crumbs all over the truffles. Let them sit in the fridge until the chocolate sets (mine only took 20 minutes). Enjoy!

These are so fantastic! You can also cut out a smidge of the cream cheese and add in some Bailey’s or Kahlua for some “grown up” chocolates. Yum!

Yeh, so I tried to make these without any recipe or pictures and it turned out… strange. The only benefit was that they were purple and gold (For an LSU tailgate). But this recipe rocks!!

oh it really sound a tasty recipe somewhat like desert cake

One of my favorites, especially for pot lucks. I’ve found that refrigerating the cream cheese Oreo mixture for around an hour makes it easier to roll the truffle centers into balls.

This recipe was in the Kraft food and family magazine about 2 years ago. It says to use baker’s semi-sweet chocolate squares to dip the truffles in. I think the squares help make them a richer and darker chocolate taste. I don’t save any oreo to sprinkle on the top, it just makes a mess and doesn’t make them taste any better.

  25. alex on January 30th, 2009 4:36 pm

If you don’t want to put them in the fridge just use the kind of chocolate you dip fruit into. I can normally find it in the produce section and that chocolate dries in about a minute.

Thank you so much for the recipe! I just made them, and within a minute of me declaring them ready, they were mostly devoured. I’m making them as thank-you gifts for everybody! It’s great when you’re on a time crunch! But I have one question; how do you coat them in the chocolate properly? Mine were sticking everywhere, and I didn’t get as thick of a coat as I would have liked.

    Thanks again!!!

I made these today as a thank you for my neighbor who plows our driveway for us. I used organic dark chocolate to dip them in and they were AMAZING. I ate three and fell over and died. This is my ghost typing it. Mmm zombie truffles….

  38. Amelie on February 5th, 2009 9:23 am

We made one very similar to these at my camp!

We sweetened the cream cheese and mized sprinkles into it, then rolled it around in cookie dust. They were really good! :) This reminded me to make some oreo rtuffles again!

I can’t tell you how absolutely delectable these little truffles are. They melt in your mouth! Our choir had a Christmas party where these were served. I just couldn’t get enough of them. I was in disbelief when I learned that they were made with Oreos. I highly recommend this dessert right up there with cheesecake!
