Goodbye to Little Window Shoppe

May 18, 2009 by Emily · 62 Comments

My Dearest Window Shoppe Readers and Friends,

This post has taken me over a month to write - partly because this is my last post on this blog. I am so sad to announce that as of today, Little Window Shoppe is closing for good.

The decision was not taken lightly and was really hard to make, but a combination of factors came together that brought me to this post…very much wanting to spend more time with my family (I have a very busy two year old who needs more mommy-time), ;) getting ready for baby #2 in November (I’ve been out sick for two months! But it’s totally worth it as we’re so excited to have a new baby come to our family), and finally getting ready for a move to a new state with my family this Summer (my hubby is starting a new job).

goodbye

I have learned so much from blogging at Little Window Shoppe and will be forever grateful for the kind friends I have made and the amazing experiences that I have had here!! Thank you so much for taking time to make Little Window shoppe a part of your lives and for being such a fantastic community. And also, thank you for all of the nice emails and inquiries about how we are doing.

Before I say goodbye for good, I want to thank a few people who helped me along the way:

First and foremost, my husband Scott. He is an incredibly supportive husband and friend and was the first person to listen to my every idea and concern throughout my blogging adventures. He has also been Superman at my house and has cooked, cleaned, taken care of our two year old and helped me out while I was sick over the last seven weeks! I couldn’t ask for a better man in my life and I love him so much!!

I also wanted to thank Holly of Tutus and Turtles. She is so cool and listened and talked to me for hours on the phone as I worked out how I would end my Window Shoppe blogging days. Her blog has been an inspiration to me from the beginning and I think that her blog ideas rock!!

Finally, I wanted to thank each of the writers and contributors for Little Window Shoppe. Each of them had creative and beautiful ideas to share and I’m so grateful and honored that they wanted to be part of this blog with me. They have become some of my dearest friends and were the best group of writers a blog ever had! They even sent me tulips when I was sick (just about made me cry, I felt so loved).

Please visit each of their blogs to keep up with their cool ideas!

Also, I wanted to leave you with a few additional recommendations of blogs I love - in case you are looking for new places to subscribe:

Cute Cards for the Recipe Box

November 26, 2008 by Emily · 5 Comments

Good Morning! Today is going to be a great day, I can tell. It’s November 26th and chances are that you are preparing and planning for Thanksgiving (maybe you’re even already prepared). We are so happy to visit family this week too and since we are bringing the pie, I’ve had pie recipes on my mind all morning. As I was digging through the recipe box - I started thinking about how much I love collecting recipes….

There are oodles of new delicious recipes waiting to be tried this Thanksgiving and I think I may need a few new recipe cards (just in case). How about you? Whether you are saving new recipes, looking for a perfect hostess gift, or simply must have your sister-in-law’s take on potato rolls, a cute recipe card is great to have.

Today’s recipe card finds are hip, cute and simply creative:

Isn’t the little chef chick card adorable? I would love to have this one in my kitchen! Find it at Pulci’s Shoppe.

Turkey Feathers = Caramel Candy Corn

November 26, 2008 by Emily · 3 Comments

Taking a peek at one of my favorite cake blogs. These little turkey pops had me at first sight with their candy corn feathers and pretzel legs…this is definitely a moist turkey treat you can add to the menu this week, Yum! ;)

Marshmallow Pilgrim Hats

November 19, 2008 by Kimberly · 12 Comments

Whether you are hosting Thanksgiving at your house or going to a friend or relative’s, this Thanksgiving treat idea from Family Fun definitely should be on your list to make this year.

How CUTE are these Pilgrim hats? They are really fun and easy to make. They also hold a special place in my heart as I once lived in Plymouth, MA for two years.  I am planning to make these from now on each and every year - I love them that much!

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:

  • 24 chocolate-striped shortbread cookies
  • 12-ounce package of chocolate chips
  • 24 marshmallows
  • tube of yellow decorators’ frosting
  1. Set the chocolate-striped cookies stripes down on a wax-paper-covered tray, spacing them well apart.
  2. Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave or double boiler.
  3. One at a time, stick a wooden toothpick into a marshmallow, dip the marshmallow into the melted chocolate, and promptly center it atop a cookie.
  4. Using a second toothpick to lightly hold down the marshmallow, carefully pull out the first toothpick.
  5. Chill the hats until the chocolate sets, then pipe a yellow decorators’ frosting buckle on the front of each hat.

Thanksgiving Table Talk

November 10, 2008 by Michelle · 6 Comments

Thanksgiving is only a few short weeks away and for some of us that means planning to pack our bags and visit family, while others are preparing to host this annual feast.  Either way there will be families and friends gathering around a fabulous menu to eat and well, chat.

If you are hosting this year and would like to talk about something other than turkey and football try Table Topics.  With ten different topic cubes to choose from, including Family Gatherings, you will be sure to host a fabulous Thanksgiving meal that your friends and family will fondly remember.  If you are not hosting {that’s me!}, the cubes can make a thoughtful gift to show your host your gratitude for all the hard work in the kitchen.  Also, be sure to visit the Emily Post site for a quick read on Thanksgiving Etiquette.  Yes, you must be on time.

Thanksgiving Dinner Flair

November 7, 2008 by Lauren · 9 Comments

This year, for the very first time, I’m hosting Thanksgiving Dinner in my own home!  It feels like some sort of womanly right-of-passage and I’m determined to do it with my own creative flair.  My kiddos are almost as excited as I am, so we’re working together to compose the perfect Thanksgiving Day table.

Our first project involved a little nature-gathering…

This cute little turkey was discovered at Martha Stewart and requires nothing more than brown pipe cleaners, feathers, glue, and a pine cone.  They would make the perfect take-home gift for dinner guests!

Once again, we’re talking super-simple crafting!  These charming placemats are decorated with homemade potato stamps.

Just slice a potato in half, use an exacto knife to cut about ¼ inch into the open side and carve out whatever design you like.  Then dip in a little fabric-safe paint and let your little ones stamp a unique fall design that’s sure to dress up your table and delight your family and friends! More details can be found at FamilyFun.com. Happy Thanksgiving Crafting!
