A New Year - Tips and Ideas For Setting Goals

December 31, 2008 by Cassie · 8 Comments

The start of a new year is very empowering to me. I feel as though each January 1st is a fresh start and a time to start over and be better. I am sure many of you, as I do, use the beginning of a new year to set new goals and make a list of things you would like to accomplish in the coming year.

Here are some neat tips and ideas about setting goals for your New Year:

Goals:

Set a reasonable amount of goals. Having an endless list will usually leave you feeling like you have too much to do. Try focusing on 2-4 main areas and include subgoals within those areas. This year I have chosen 3 main areas of my life to better myself: Family, Spiritual, and Self.

One Word:

I love the idea of having one word to focus your goals and year on. A wonderful blogger, Tanja, wrote a neat post about her Word of the Year and why she chooses this method of goal setting. If you decide this route, why not have your word put on a charm to be a constant reminder? You can buy a Word of the Year Charm like this at Lisa Leonard Designs (pictured above).

Quote or Saying:

If you have a favorite quote or saying, you can center your goals around your quote. You can use the quote to guide you in making decisions, setting other goals or when transitioning through life changes (i.e. taking a new job, etc).

Hopes:

Use the things you are looking forward to this year as a way of goal setting. If one of your goals this year is to lose weight write on your list “weighing X lbs” rather than “lose X lbs”. Seeing that goal accomplished on paper sends positive messages to your brain.

What do you do when it comes to New Year’s Goals and Resolutions? Share your ideas with us!

Ten Thousand Villages

December 9, 2008 by Vanessa · 6 Comments

Have a little last minute holiday shopping to do? Head on over to Ten Thousand Villages, they have over 160 retail stores in the United States (and some in Canada too!) along with 220 festival sale locations. They have a great online selection as well!

Ten Thousand Villages is a fair trade retailer that carries handmade jewelry, home decor, gifts and much more. They work with over 130 artisan groups in more than 38 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Fair trade enables artisans to earn a fair wage and provides the opportunity for a better quality of life.

I can honestly say you will find a holiday gift for everyone on your list at this shoppe. Everything is made with high quality and is unbelievably beautiful. I stayed in the shoppe for hours in awe, you could tell everything was made with such talent and love.

They have the perfect gifts for clients, teachers, children, parents, spouses, hostesses, fathers and mothers. They have beautiful recycled treasures, gift baskets and stocking stuffers. If you are overwhelmed and can’t decide just pick up a gift card!

For most of the items you purchase, you will also receive information on who made it and where it was made, which makes the gift even more special. For instance, my mother in law bought me these beautiful handmade Lotus Teacups and Saucers that were made from the Vietnamese artisan group Craft Link.

Many of their bands have an adjustable button in the back so that you can slip it on and off quickly without having to tie it. (Just be careful your hair doesn’t get caught in it when putting it on or taking it off…) Finally, (can you tell I love these?) you can mix and match their stylish clippies and bows as an accessory for your band.

Sweet Shoppe: Hannah Shaw

November 11, 2008 by Emily · 8 Comments

Enchantingly unique handbags and pouches standout in this modern - and simply unforgettable - Etsy Shoppe. Hannah Shaw is a very talented (self-taught!) designer who creates handbags, makeup pouches and jewelry. Each piece in her collection is beautifully crafted and detailed by hand!

I am quite a fan of her shoppe and admittedly have a weakness for handbags. ;) Looking at my collection at home, most of my favorites (and the ones I use on a regular basis) are handmade.

Love handbags too? Then you’ll definitely enjoy browsing her pretty collection. She also fills custom orders, that way if you have something in mind, she can make it for you specifically.

With a plethora of delightful gifts and must-have accessories, Pineapple Hill drew me in like a bug to a light. (Don’t you love my Saturday morning creativity?). I love “green” and was happy to see so much of it in their items…maybe that was it.

Here’s their story: Pineapple Hill Designs began with a desire to find uncommon items displaying quality and style at reasonable prices. They have spent countless hours searching to find home accessories, jewelry, baby items and artwork so that you could have chic and unique things for your home that make every day just a little more special for yourself and those you love.

October 14, 2008 by Vanessa · 74 Comments

I don’t know about you but if it has been a crazy day and I have to go out of the house, I feel a little more put together and cute if I throw on a fun chunky bracelet, a beautiful necklace or a funky pair of earnings.

I am a huge fan of Twisted Silver Jewelry which I just recently discovered. They have an amazing collection and their jewelry is funky, modern, beautiful, unique, and the company has fantastic customer service.

Twisted Silver is leading the pack in their “convertible jewelry” which means YOU define how to wear the jewelry. A belt becomes a necklace that can become a choker that can become multi-wrap bracelet.

Here is a sneak peak of the earnings from their newest collection Hope that just launched this weekend and a glimpse of the Tangle Bangle.

Sweet Shoppe: Savvy Girl & Co.

October 7, 2008 by Emily · 7 Comments

Handmade Jewelry is all about style, fashion and fun and SavvyGirl & Co. hopes to make your day with their fabulous collection.

SavvyGirl & Co. was started by Cydney in 2002, and she is absolutely delightful to work with! From original to classic, her handmade pieces are hard to forget.

This necklace is made of genuine red coral, Bali silver and is accented with turquoise to signify strength, courage and love. Just one of the many beauties you can find at her shoppe.

I’m really excited about this shoppe today because it gives me another good reason to want to wear more fashionable accessories in my life. I do love to wear the most meaningful pieces on a regular basis…my wedding ring, a necklace my husband gave to me, but aside from these favorites, it’s not often that I wear fun and stylish jewelry, unless I’m going out…I know, I really should huh? Especially since my husband loves it when I’m girlie and accessorized too. ;)

If you have time, I want to hear from you! Why do you like to you wear jewelry? What are your favorite pieces to wear?
