Goodbye to Little Window Shoppe

May 18, 2009 by Emily · 62 Comments

My Dearest Window Shoppe Readers and Friends,

This post has taken me over a month to write - partly because this is my last post on this blog. I am so sad to announce that as of today, Little Window Shoppe is closing for good.

The decision was not taken lightly and was really hard to make, but a combination of factors came together that brought me to this post…very much wanting to spend more time with my family (I have a very busy two year old who needs more mommy-time), ;) getting ready for baby #2 in November (I’ve been out sick for two months! But it’s totally worth it as we’re so excited to have a new baby come to our family), and finally getting ready for a move to a new state with my family this Summer (my hubby is starting a new job).

goodbye

{Photo source: Wilson Library Reserve}

I have learned so much from blogging at Little Window Shoppe and will be forever grateful for the kind friends I have made and the amazing experiences that I have had here!! Thank you so much for taking time to make Little Window shoppe a part of your lives and for being such a fantastic community. And also, thank you for all of the nice emails and inquiries about how we are doing.

Before I say goodbye for good, I want to thank a few people who helped me along the way:

First and foremost, my husband Scott. He is an incredibly supportive husband and friend and was the first person to listen to my every idea and concern throughout my blogging adventures. He has also been Superman at my house and has cooked, cleaned, taken care of our two year old and helped me out while I was sick over the last seven weeks! I couldn’t ask for a better man in my life and I love him so much!!

I also wanted to thank Holly of Tutus and Turtles. She is so cool and listened and talked to me for hours on the phone as I worked out how I would end my Window Shoppe blogging days. Her blog has been an inspiration to me from the beginning and I think that her blog ideas rock!!

Finally, I wanted to thank each of the writers and contributors for Little Window Shoppe. Each of them had creative and beautiful ideas to share and I’m so grateful and honored that they wanted to be part of this blog with me. They have become some of my dearest friends and were the best group of writers a blog ever had! They even sent me tulips when I was sick (just about made me cry, I felt so loved).

Please visit each of their blogs to keep up with their cool ideas!

Also, I wanted to leave you with a few additional recommendations of blogs I love - in case you are looking for new places to subscribe:

  • www.thepioneerwoman.com - recipes, photoshop tutorials, photography 101, down-to-earth life.

I don’t usually post on a Saturday, but we have so many outstanding shoppes and giveaways to share, I couldn’t miss this opportunity (plus my husband is hanging out with our toddler this morning, so it gives me time to write). ;)

Saturday Sweet Shoppes

*Let’s start with sweet shoppe, Pineapple Hill:

With a plethora of delightful gifts and must-have accessories, Pineapple Hill drew me in like a bug to a light. (Don’t you love my Saturday morning creativity?). I love “green” and was happy to see so much of it in their items…maybe that was it.

Here’s their story: Pineapple Hill Designs began with a desire to find uncommon items displaying quality and style at reasonable prices. They have spent countless hours searching to find home accessories, jewelry, baby items and artwork so that you could have chic and unique things for your home that make every day just a little more special for yourself and those you love.

Fun Halloween Features

October 20, 2008 by Emily · 2 Comments

Over the weekend, my family and I went to a witch-palooza event at a little boutique village near our house. It was so much fun to see all of the shoppes and boutiques decorated for Halloween with treats and funny-looking witches. Likewise, many of the online shoppes I have come across lately are also ready for Halloween and I wanted to display some of their work today.

My first feature is from Panjo Kids “Super Capes for Super Kids!” Now what would Halloween be like without a few good capes to play with?

These spooky soaps from Twin Birch Bath and Body are so adorable. I love the rubber ducky pumpkin and witch. There are even more to choose from…Franken~duck, Mummy~duck, Ghostly~duck, & Dracu~duck. Wouldn’t they make perfect party favors? You can even customize the labels.

Tutus are perfect for all occasions and Halloween is no exception. At FaBOWlous, you can create the prettiest costume ensemble complete with poofy clips, bows and a custom made tutu for your little girl.

You can’t go wrong with this sassy little feature from Dainty Couture. Sturdy and personalized with your initial, this little black bag is all ready for to go for trick or treating.

And finally, FALL in love with these cute Trick or Treat and Boo Signs from My Lil’ Doodlebugs.

September 23, 2008 by Emily · 171 Comments

Creating the “flawless” makeup look can be achieved with just the right brush and A Design Brushes are helping to bring that “flawless look” to the world of makeup artistry.

Do you use a make up brush? I didn’t used to, but since having a few helpful tips from the experts, I have added a few of them to my daily routine and really am happy with the results! For me, they really do add just the right touch, without “over-doing” it.

Kelly Ripa’s 10 Secrets to Happiness

September 12, 2008 by Emily · 2 Comments

I don’t really have a favorite celebrity, but if I did I would probably be a HUGE fan of Kelly Ripa (OK, maybe a few actors from The Office would rank high on my list too). In addition to being an incredible TV Host, she’s also a wife and mom of three. Even though she’s super-woman in many aspects, she’s also down to earth about her daily life and comes across as very relate-able.

kellyripa

You may have caught a glimpse of her on the cover of First Magazine this month at the grocery store, but just in case you didn’t, she opens up about parenthood, happiness and how she manages it all. Here are a few quotes from her featured interview:

  • On her traditional family life: “Marriage and having kids really agrees with us. Mark helps with homework, while I’ll do a baking project for school. We look at each other and think, if our friends could see us now, they wouldn’t believe what we’ve become! We really enjoy what our life has developed into. I try to do it all, and I don’t do any of it particularly well. But at least I try. Sometimes the cookies get burnt, but what are you going to do?”
  • Her favorite rainy day activities with her kids: “With my daughter, we’re really into fairy house. They’re lots of fun. You gather sticks, weeds, toothpicks, seashells and any other materials you have lying around, and you build a house for a fairy.  People actually build them and leave them in the woods. You can stumble upon them if you know where to look. The boys aren’t so much into organized rainy-day activities. They’re more into bartering for video game time—I’ll take out the trash if you let me have 10 minutes of video game time. We also do a lot of tie-dye outside in the garage.”

Sweet Shoppe: Live Beautiful

September 4, 2008 by Emily · 5 Comments

So we all want to look beautiful right? But what about living Beautiful….I was really intrigued by this Etsy shoppetique “Live Beautiful“ and its simple message. I want to live beautiful!!

Live Beautiful products focus on ways to help you to clear your mind and relax so that you can be inspired to Live Beautiful in your own way. One of their products that I want for myself is the Perfectly Plush Heat Relaxer ($16.50).

These are much like “rice socks” or “heat wraps” although there are a few ways that set them apart from your typical heat wrap. They are specially designed with an inside pouch that evenly distributes rice to keep it from bunching at one end and their plush minky dot liners are also unique - and look super soft.

Not only can these help you relax and relieve stress, but they are great “heating pads” for back and neck pain, muscle cramps, muscle fatigue and arthritic pain.
