Good Morning! Today is going to be a great day, I can tell. It’s November 26th and chances are that you are preparing and planning for Thanksgiving (maybe you’re even already prepared). We are so happy to visit family this week too and since we are bringing the pie, I’ve had pie recipes on my mind all morning. As I was digging through the recipe box - I started thinking about how much I love collecting recipes….

There are oodles of new delicious recipes waiting to be tried this Thanksgiving and I think I may need a few new recipe cards (just in case). How about you? Whether you are saving new recipes, looking for a perfect hostess gift, or simply must have your sister-in-law’s take on potato rolls, a cute recipe card is great to have.
Today’s recipe card finds are hip, cute and simply creative:

Looking for new board book additions to add to your infant’s book collection? I was thrilled to come across these three new (to me) authors and series.

Christmas Countdown
November 24, 2008 by Michelle · 9 Comments
Christmas is just around the corner and while many of us will be busy pulling those decorations out of the attic or standing in long lines trying to get a jump on holiday shopping, one of my favorite things about the season is the Advent calendar.
I love the tradition behind the calendar and the anticipation of a special new treat each morning. I remember being a little girl and opening each small door to get a peek at the yummy chocolate treat just waiting for me each day. Now that I am a mom of three little ones, I get even more joy out of putting those treats behind each door and watching as the kids get so excited to count down to Christmas.

In my quest to by handmade this year, I have found some of the most delightful advent calendars. Enjoy and don’t forget to leave yourself a treat as well!

Little Urbanites - Holiday Gift Guides
November 21, 2008 by Emily · 4 Comments
Next week is the big shopping week! Are you ready? Do you go out the day after Thanksgiving? Or do you prefer to avoid the crowds? I have friends who every year without fail, camp out in front of their favorite stores with a map in hand ready to grab the best sales imaginable. I’m not that into it (I can’t say that I’ve ever camped out in front of a store), but I definitely love window shopping (of course) through children’s stores and shoppes that are displaying holiday items. It makes it feel like Christmas is really almost here!

Today’s little window shopping adventure is with Little Urbanites. This is a children’s retail store and modern design center based in Portland, OR that recently brought their brick-and-mortar online for all of us to enjoy.
They have everything from apparel to strollers and I love the store gift guides that they have listed for baby and for the holidays. Each one has three different sections (organized by price) where you can shop through a variety books, toys, gear, bath essentials and general gifts that are priced under $25, $50 or $150. Enjoy!
I Loved Twilight
November 21, 2008 by Emily · 12 Comments
Taking another Window Shoppe blog break to divulge about the movie…

I simply loved it. I can’t wait to see it again. (Squeal!) I know other websites have been giving it a big thumbs up and I definitely agree. I’m not a movie critic…but I am a Twilight lover and I know that it was worth the wait - I was just a little bit nervous beforehand wondering if it was possible for the movie to be as good as the book…and I think they did a great job interpreting and following the book.

I don’t want to give too much away (I probably will - so if you don’t want to know stop reading now!), because I know a lot of you are dying to see it still, but I thought that the characters were just right and completely fascinating - they fit their descriptions really well. Since it was sort of a teen movie there was of course a little teen cheesiness here and there (you already knew that)…but that’s really just part of Twilight altogether and part of what makes it fun.

What surprised me the most was how much it made me laugh, some parts were really amusing! There was laughter and giggling all throughout the movie…I definitely wasn’t expecting that, but the funny moments seamlessly fit in and if you’ve read the book and know a few inside things, some of the scenes are even funnier.

The love scenes were perfect and the fight scenes were definitely suspenseful….OK, OK…I’m stopping. I could keep raving about it - so go see it when you get the chance, if you’re a twilight fan I’m pretty sure you’ll love it too!! ;)

One last thing, lets talk about the mega-fans at the midnight showing. Wow. It felt like the mall at Christmas, it was packed and there were definitely Team Edward and Team Jacob groups by the masses - many of which were in pj’s. It was so fun and I’m really glad that I was there.
Did you see it? What did you think? Did you love it too?
Do You Have a “Mommy” Calling Card?
November 20, 2008 by Emily · 6 Comments
Most of us have used business cards at one time or another, but what about a mommy (or daddy) calling card? I must know, do you have one? Do you use it a lot?
I have seen them everywhere am trying to decide if I should get one. They seem really useful - especially since many of us are bloggers too - you just never know when you’ll need one, right? I think it’s nice to have all the best contact information right in one place too.

I found super cute calling cards at HauteMammas.com - here’s what they are saying about them: “Tired of rummaging through your purse or diaper bag in search of paper and a pen only to settle for eyeliner and the back of a receipt?” (Me - thinking to myself: Yes!)
“Have you recently run into your long lost BFF from 6th grade while at the park with your kid in one arm and the dog’s leash in your other hand?” (Me - thinking to myself again: No, but it could happen!)
“Not only are you now able to be officially and stylishly rescued (Me: OK, that’s good!), you will have a custom mommy calling card to present that is way cooler than any business card in your past professional life!”
Here’s what else I like about their cards: they have rounded corners, are designed on the front and the back and are super strong! (You could even serve hors d-oeuvres on these - they are that strong).

If you’re already set in the calling card department, HauteMammas.com also makes personalized gift labels (pictured above), holiday cards, thank you notes, stationery and much more…

Just a Few Hours Left!!
November 20, 2008 by Emily · 9 Comments
Just because I CAN’T STOP thinking about it, I am going to be super girlie for a moment…

I am such a Twilight fan and am SO excited that the movie is coming out tonight!! Woo! My friend JaNece and I are going to go to see the movie at midnight and I’m counting down the hours. Are you counting down too?
I was completely and utterly smitten by these books (and the love story of course). My mother-in-law talked me into reading them a few months ago, and once I started I couldn’t put them down. Who knew that I would love vampires and werewolves so much….
Are you going to see the movie tonight?
Marshmallow Pilgrim Hats
November 19, 2008 by Kimberly · 12 Comments
Whether you are hosting Thanksgiving at your house or going to a friend or relative’s, this Thanksgiving treat idea from Family Fun definitely should be on your list to make this year.

How CUTE are these Pilgrim hats? They are really fun and easy to make. They also hold a special place in my heart as I once lived in Plymouth, MA for two years. I am planning to make these from now on each and every year - I love them that much!
RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
- 24 chocolate-striped shortbread cookies
- 12-ounce package of chocolate chips
- 24 marshmallows
- tube of yellow decorators’ frosting
- Set the chocolate-striped cookies stripes down on a wax-paper-covered tray, spacing them well apart.
- Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave or double boiler.
- One at a time, stick a wooden toothpick into a marshmallow, dip the marshmallow into the melted chocolate, and promptly center it atop a cookie.
- Using a second toothpick to lightly hold down the marshmallow, carefully pull out the first toothpick.
- Chill the hats until the chocolate sets, then pipe a yellow decorators’ frosting buckle on the front of each hat.
